The two big names on the LP cover were already a sales-boosting idea in 1962, and so pianist Duke Ellington was able to join John Coltrane's current quartet. They played mainly Ellington's songs, and this marketing idea led to a remarkable album on which two jazz greats approached the material with great respect. The title track In a Sentimental Mood in particular won Ellington and Coltrane over to the collaboration, but Take the Coltrane and Big Nick also created their own magic. As part of the Coltrane Quartet you'll hear Duke Ellington on piano, John Coltrane on tenor and sproano sax, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. However, some tracks also feature Ellington's partners Aaron Bell on bass and Sam Woodyard on drums Jazz Classics Reissued + 1 bonus track. Limited audiophile edition. DMM mastering.
