When Diamond Head released Lightning To The Nations 40 years ago in 1980, few could have predicted the significance of the new wave of heavy metal and its sound. Packed with riffs, Lightning To The Nations became one of the most important catalysts for the movement known as New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). At the same time, this debut album set the stage for one of the biggest bands in the world: Metallica. However, at the time, back home in Stourbridge, UK, Diamond Head had no idea that and how these seven songs would find such resonance. The 2020 reissue of "Lightning To The Nations" is a great dose of fresh metal energy. Diamond Head use their experience, skill and vital energy to breathe new life into the album and hopefully with the same success as then. Recording took place in several studios in France, as well as in the band members' home studios, with Andersen's Raw Sound Studios in London being a central location. Brian and Abbz recorded guitars there in February and March, and then came the COVID-19 snafu. Andersen then worked on the album from April to July, Tatler optimized it in August, and then it was handed over to Metropolis Studios. The album also features four great cover versions that pay tribute to Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Deep Purple and Metallica. Considering that Diamond Head influenced Metallica's career very early on, the cover of No Remorse is more than appropriate.
