Depeche Mode's eleventh studio album, "Playing the Angel", was released in October 2005. The album debuted at number one in 18 countries and was the band's first album to debut at number one in the United States. The album went gold or platinum in 32 countries. The first single from the album, "Precious", became a huge hit and reached the top 5 in over 15 countries. The second single from the album, "John the Revelator", was also a hit and reached the top 10 in over 20 countries. Critics praised the album and many called it the band's best album in years. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to Basement Jaxx's "Crazy Itch Radio". The album was a huge success, selling over 4 million copies worldwide.
