Exciter is the eleventh studio album by English electronic music group Depeche Mode , released on 19 March 2001 by Mute Records. It was the band's first album released after the departure of Alan Wilder and the first to feature Gahan as a vocalist since 1990's Violator. The album was produced by Mark Bell (of LFO and Björk fame) and mixed by Timo Mass. The album debuted at number one in 11 countries and sold over 1.2 million copies worldwide. It was also a critical success, with many reviewers praising the album as a return to form for the band. The album's lead single, "Dream On", was a critical and commercial success, reaching number one in 11 countries and becoming the band's biggest hit since the 1990 single "Personal Jesus". The album's second single, "I Feel You", was also a success and reached the top ten in six countries. The album was certified gold by the RIAA in the United States and sold over 1.2 million copies worldwide.
