EMI releases a double-CD retrospective of David Sylvian's career, featuring his highly acclaimed solo work, including the exclusive new track "Where's Your Gravity?". "A Victim Of Stars, 1982 - 2012" features recordings from throughout David Sylvian's 30-year solo career, from his legendary tenure at Virgin Records to his more recent work on his own samadhisound label. In addition, the double album features a brand new track recorded exclusively by Sylvian for this compilation. David Sylvian's musical journeys of discovery in the 1980s led from avant-garde pop, stylish jazz and airy exotica on Brilliant Trees (1984) to ambient soundscapes and epic ballads on Gone To Earth (1985) and the semi-acoustic Secrets Of The Beehive (1987). He was backed by world-class jazz musicians such as Mark Isham, John Taylor and Kenny Wheeler as well as rock and fusion guitarists such as Robert Fripp, Bill Nelson and David Torn. Regular collaborations with composer Ryuichi Sakamoto of the Yellow Magic Orchestra led to Sylvian's first international hit "Forbidden Colours", followed by the successful "Bamboo Houses" and "Bamboo Music". In the early 1990s, Sylvian undertook a series of tours with Robert Fripp, which eventually resulted in their 1993 joint studio album The First Day. Back in 1991, he released the album Rain Tree Crow with his eponymous band, which was a reunion of his former formation Japan under a new name. However, Sylvian was not as prolific in this decade and it took him four years to release 1999's Dead Bees On A Cake. The Dead Bees album yielded the hit single "I Surrender", which is a beautiful testament to his spiritual journey. With great determination, Sylvian continued to reinvent his soul life and released the ambitious 2003 album Blemish. With his formation Nine Horses, he has so far released Snow Borne Sorrow (2005) and the EP Money for All (2007). Nine Horses is a trio consisting of his brother Steve Jansen, with whom he regularly collaborates, and electronic artist Burnt Friedman. Other guests include singer Stina Nordenstam, trumpeter Arve Henriksen and Ryuichi Sakamoto on piano. In 2009 Sylvian followed up the ideas of Blemish with the album Manafon, which brought together the world's best improvisers such as Evan Parker, Keith Rowe, Fennesz, Sachiko M, Otomo Yoshihide and John Tilbury. Finally, the recordings on the extensive compilation include contributions from his most recent album, Died In The Wool (2011), which varied themes from Manafon and was created with renowned composer Dai Fujikura, two producers, Jan Bang and Eric Honoré, and a host of other outstanding musicians."
