Bruce Springsteen: The Ties That Bind: The River Collection DLX version on 4CD/2Blu-ray in deluxe edition. This particular edition was published in Europe in publishing company Columbia on 4. December 2015.
It all comes together here: the River Collection While it was far from the most successful album, it is still arguably the most groundbreaking of Bruce Springsteen's career: 'The River'. The fifth album, which "Boss" released in October 1980, was the first album to reach number one on the US Billboard 200 album chart. It reached number two in the UK and number 31 in Germany, becoming the first Springsteen album to chart in Germany. It marked his commercial breakthrough in that country. With "The Ties That Bind: The River Collection" being the first box set to bring this album back to prominence. A total of four CDs and three DVDs or two Blu-ray discs and a hardcover book offer an in-depth look at the making of the album, which contains 52 songs, many of which have never been released before, as well as plenty of rare video footage. CD overview: four CDs include the 1980 double album "The River" and the first version of the album Springsteen wrote in 1979 as a direct follow-up to "Darkness On The Edge Of Town". However, the ten tracks were never released because, according to Springsteen, they lacked conceptual coherence. An intensive songwriting phase followed, followed by the "real" album a year later. Seven of the ten songs from The River made it onto the later double album, but some were rearranged or rewritten. The fourth CD in the box set, "The Ties That Bind: The River Collection", is an extensive collection of studio recordings from the 1979 and 1980 recording sessions for "The River" album, giving a glimpse into the musician's work. The collection contains a total of 22 tracks, eleven of which have now been released for the first time. They were mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Bob Ludwig. The other eleven tracks come from the "Tracks" box set and the "Essentials" compilation and are now collected on CD for the first time. DVD and Blu-ray disc overview: the three DVDs and two Blu-ray discs in the box set contain a wealth of rare and never-before-released film material. Among other things, there is newly edited footage of the legendary 1980 concert in Tempe, Arizona, which at the time was filmed with four cameras and recorded as multi-track audio. "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: The River Tour, Tempe 1980" runs a full two hours and 40 minutes and features live versions of many songs from The River album. In addition, the DVD and Blu-ray include 20 minutes of rehearsal footage of the singer and his band, which was filmed in Lititz, Pennsylvania. As a special treat, viewers can also expect a brand new 60-minute documentary about Bruce Springsteen. "The Ties That Bind" documents the entire making of the album through narration, photographs, concert clips, acoustic performances and an interview with Springsteen. Hardcover book: Last but not least, "The Ties That Bind: The River Collection" features a 148-page hardcover book with a total of 200 photos from studio recordings and live performances, as well as single covers and outtakes of the original covers. Many of these images have never been seen before. There is also a new essay by Bruce Springsteen expert Mikal Gilmore, sleeve notes and excerpts from Springsteen's notebook, as well as the original 1980 Rolling Stone review of the album. To describe this box as comprehensive would be an understatement. "Ties That Bind: The River Collection" is a more than packed package that covers in detail one of the most important periods in the life of rock legend Bruce Springsteen. The entire box at a glance.
