Bruce Springsteen's 18th studio album "High Hopes", released in January 2014, is a mix of new songs and cover versions. The album was recorded over a period of several years, with multiple musicians and recording sessions involved on many of the songs. Springsteen described the album as "kind of a hybrid. Some of the songs were written a long time ago and some more recently". The album's first single, "High Hopes", was a cover version of a song originally recorded by Tim Scott McConnell of the band Havalinas. The song, which Springsteen performed live several times, was inspired by the suicide of Springsteen's friend and mentor Clarence Clemons. "The Ghost of Tom Joad" was a cover of a 1995 song by Rage Against the Machine. Other new songs on the album included "Hunter of Invisible Game", "The Wall", "Frankie Fell in Love" and "This Is Your Sword". "Hunter of Invisible Game" was written for the soundtrack of the 2014 film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1". "The Wall" was written about Springsteen's father, who died in 1998.
