Booker T & The M.G.'s music is on the radar of anyone with a passing interest in music, as their songs are often sampled by well-known stars. The foundation of their successful career was laid back in 1962 with the hit "Green Onions". Booker T. & The M.G.'s were the backing band for the soul duo Sam & Dave, and it was their hits that comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi reprised years later, bringing them to white audiences in the movie Blues Brothers. Green Onions is the debut album by Booker T. & the M.G.'s released in October 1962 on Stax Records. In the month of its release, it reached number 33 on the pop album charts. The title single became a worldwide hit and was covered by dozens of artists, including the Blues Brothers and Roy Buchanan (both with Steve Cropper on guitar), as well as The Ventures, Al Kooper, The Shadows, Mongo Santamaria and Count Basie.
