The latest volume in the series, which has been met with great fan and critical acclaim, explores Dylan's somewhat forgotten creative phase in the first half of the 1980s. In the early 1980s, when the music industry was grappling with a host of new media trends and technical innovations, from MTV to CDs to digital recording, Bob Dylan wrote songs for the emerging new decade, establishing a new chapter in his work, which he released on a total of three albums ("Shot Of Love" 1981, "Infidels" 1983 and "Empire Burlesque" 1985). "Springtime In New York" sheds light on this exciting period through previously unreleased outtakes, alternate versions of songs, rehearsals, as well as several live recordings. "Springtime In New York" is being released by Sony Music in three physical formats: a deluxe box set containing a total of 57 tracks on five CDs, all previously unreleased except for three tracks, plus a 100-page hardcover book with photographs of rare Dylan memorabilia from the period, among others. The double CD and 2-LP vinyl edition contains a selection of the best of these 57 tracks. Detailed liner notes for the 16th volume of the Bootleg series are written by British author and journalist Damien Love.
