Here, the bard laid the foundation for the path he would later take, and the one everyone else followed. But we shouldn't gloss over the fact that the album flopped at the time and only in retrospect did everyone claim to have recognized the talent immediately. Dylan equally honors the tradition of American blues and folk while putting his own stamp on the material.
