Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of a relationship: 'Vulnicura' Björk Björk has returned to music with her new eighth album, 'Vulnicura'. Music is an original and essential part of Björk's "Gesamtkunstwerk" and the characters she creates. This return to the power of music was much needed: after many years together, her relationship with Matthew Barney broke down. Outside of the artistic characters, the real and human Björk remained. After the end of a relationship, one involuntarily asks questions and defines a new self after a period of mourning. On the album "Vulnicura", Björk describes these phases in an artistic triptych: the time shortly before the end of the relationship, the time after, and aspects of the newly acquired self. Just as the album has given Björk a new strength, the listener comes out of it stronger. There was already a lot of interest in Björk's new album: 'Vulnicura' appeared in the lists of relevant music magazines as one of the most important new releases of 2015. Björk planned the March 2015 release well. The album was to be released on the occasion of an exhibition about Björk at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and alongside her book "Björk: Archives". However, Björk then released "Vulnicura" earlier than planned, digitally in January 2015. Like Madonna, she was the victim of an illegal pre-release on the internet. The fact that she did not comment on this "leak" and instead responded very quickly with a digital release was received positively and enthusiastically by her fans and the public. On "Vulnicura", Björk offers a direct insight into her mental life - the lyrics are less artistic or less integrated into the overall artistic concept. Nevertheless, Björk sets them to music in a sophisticated way. In particular, she took great care with the fifteen-part string arrangements, because thinking about herself in the violin helped her to overcome the suffering of love particularly well. The strings are complemented by electronic beats, mainly provided by co-producer Arca. The album was produced by Björk together with her band The Haxan Cloak. Björk's change of approach to her voice contributes to the sound of "Vulnicura". She sings much quieter than we know her, as if she wants to deal with the most personal of all instruments, her voice, in a particularly loving way in the pain of separation. Despite her lost love, Björk gives herself and us one of her most beautiful albums in a long time: "Vulnicura" is pure feeling - Björk at her purest.
