Antonín Dvořák's opera is about an attempt to bring together two fundamentally different but strongly fascinated beings, the water nymph Rusalka and the prince. All attempts to relive their love fail; the reality of their lives is too distant. Dvořák was able to translate the tragedy of Jaroslav Kvapil's libretto into music in a unique way. Since its premiere in 1901, this stage work has been part of the standard repertoire. This fine and aesthetic production from Opera Nova Bydgoszcz in 2015 can now be enjoyed on this DVD from the Polish label DUX. The lead role is sung by the excellent Magdalena Polkowska.
