LHI Records

LHI Records

American label founded by Lee Hazlewood. LHI stands for "Lee Hazlewood Industries". Formed 1967, Closed 1971, but revived in the 90's/00's. The label was first distributed by Decca Records then by ABC Records (ironically, both labels would eventually be absorbed by MCA Records). In 1967, The International Submarine Band recorded Safe At Home for the label, which some consider to be the first country rock album. Distributed by Decca Distributing Corporation [1967-68], ABC Records, Inc. [1968-71] News article on the formation of the label as published on page 3 of the 12 Nov 1966 edition of Billboard magazine: "Eden Label Now LHI NEW YORK - The label jointly owned by Lee Hazlewood and Decca Records - and which was formerly known as Eden Records - will henceforth be known as LHI Records. LHI product is to be distributed in the United States and Canada through the normal Decca distribution set-up. Foreign distribution arrangements are being set. While confirming the change in the label's name, Hazlewood announced the appointment of Tom Thacker as West Coast promotion director for LHI. Thacker, who will headquarter at LHI's Los Angeles headquarters, has a background of considerable radio experience. Recently he was program director of KEZY, Anaheim, Calif."
