Harry J Records

Harry J Records

Harry J Records is a Jamaican label founded by Harry "Harry J" Johnson in 1968. (For the Studio please use Harry J's Recording Studio) Johnson, who was once the bass player for The Virtues, launched the Harry J label in 1968 and immediately scored a hit on his very first shot at producing with what is considered to be the very first Reggae tune in recorded history -- "No More Heartaches" by The Beltones, which was a number one Jamaican hit and a smash in the UK. Harry J was also famous for producing "The Liquidator" by his in-studio band, The Harry J All-Stars. "The Liquidator" was a 1969 smash hit that became one of the UK's top sports songs of all-time and was also the musical base for "The Staple Singers" 1972 hit, "I'll Take You There". Harry J owns the Roosevelt and Jaywax label subsidiaries from the 1970s, and also the Sunset, and "10 Roosevelt Ave." subsidiary labels from the 1980s. In their original heyday, Trojan Records in England launched the UK Harry J subsidiary imprint to distribute Harry J material until 1973. The UK version of the label itself was retired in 1974 issuing music from other producers. Please note some 12" singles were issued in printed 12" jackets which make use of the original P&P Records logo from their disco jackets. http://www.discogs.com/label/9904-PP-Records
