Originally appeared as "Argo Record Corp." (full company name). Chicago label founded in 1955 as the jazz subsidiary of Chess Records. Originally launched as Marterry Records, it changed its name following an objection by bandleader Ralph Marterie. It changed its name again to Cadet Records in 1965 after discovering that the UK label Argo (2) had previously been operating under the same name. For bootlegs/unofficial releases, see Argo (7).
