The Salsoul Orchestra

The Salsoul Orchestra

Disco-Funk Ensemble with Lush Orchestral Sound

The Salsoul Orchestra was a highly influential American disco orchestra in the 1970s. Formed around 1974 by the Cayre brothers, owners of Salsoul Records, the group was composed of session musicians from Philadelphia, many of whom had previously played with acts associated with the Philadelphia soul sound and MFSB, the house band for Philadelphia International Records. Under the direction of Vincent Montana Jr., who was also a composer, arranger, and percussionist, The Salsoul Orchestra melded elements of funk, Latin, disco, and orchestral music into an innovative and vibrant sound that helped define an era.
