The Pirates

The Pirates

British rock band

The Pirates were a British rock band formed in the late 1950s by guitarist Mick Green, bassist Johnny Spence, and drummer Frank Farley. They initially gained recognition as the backing group for rock and roll singer Johnny Kidd, with whom they recorded the hit single "Shakin' All Over" in 1960. After Kidd's death in a car accident in 1966, The Pirates disbanded but later reformed in the mid-1970s. They became known for their energetic live performances and were part of the pub rock scene, which was a precursor to the punk movement. The Pirates continued to perform and record through the 1970s and into the early 1980s, releasing several albums including "Out of Their Skulls" and "Skull Wars." Although they never achieved major chart success after their initial hit with Johnny Kidd, they maintained a loyal fan base and are remembered for their contribution to British rock music.
