Otis Spann was a highly influential American blues musician, renowned for his distinctive piano style and his work as a leading figure in the post-war Chicago blues scene. Born on March 21, 1930, in Jackson, Mississippi, Spann's career took off when he moved to Chicago in the mid-1940s. He is best known for his long-standing association with the legendary bluesman Muddy Waters, with whom he played as a pianist from the early 1950s until the late 1960s.
