Midge Ure

Midge Ure

Scottish musician and Ultravox frontman

Midge Ure is a renowned Scottish musician, singer-songwriter, and producer, whose career spans several decades. He first gained prominence in the late 1970s as a member of the band Slik and subsequently joined The Rich Kids, a group formed by former Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock. Ure's career took a significant turn when he became the frontman of Ultravox in 1979, leading the band to commercial success with hits like "Vienna" and "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes." Beyond his work with Ultravox, Midge Ure has enjoyed a successful solo career. He released his debut solo album "The Gift" in 1985, which included the UK number one single "If I Was." His influence extends beyond performance; he co-organized Band Aid and co-wrote the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" with Bob Geldof. Ure continued to produce music over the years, with albums such as "Orchestrated" in 2017, which featured reimagined orchestral versions of Ultravox hits and solo work. His compilation album "Soundtrack 1978-2019," released in 2019, is a testament to his enduring impact on the music industry, showcasing his versatility and evolution as an artist over four decades.
