Coleman Hawkins

Coleman Hawkins

Jazz Saxophone Legend

Coleman Hawkins, born on November 21, 1904, in Saint Joseph, Missouri, was a prominent American jazz tenor saxophonist. He is often referred to as the "father of the tenor saxophone" for his pivotal role in establishing the tenor sax as a leading instrument in jazz. Hawkins' career spanned over four decades, during which he played with some of the biggest names in jazz history, including Fletcher Henderson's orchestra, where he was one of the featured soloists from 1923 to 1934.
