Charlie Poole

Charlie Poole

Influential American old-time banjo player and country musician

Charlie Poole was an influential American musician and the leader of the North Carolina Ramblers, an old-time string band that played a pivotal role in the development of early country music in the United States. Born on March 22, 1892, in Randolph County, North Carolina, Poole was known for his three-finger banjo picking style, which would later influence bluegrass musicians like Earl Scruggs. His career took off in the 1920s when he recorded a number of songs that became hits, including "Don't Let Your Deal Go Down Blues," which sold over 100,000 copies at the time.
