Wynton Marsalis is an acclaimed American trumpeter, composer, teacher, and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. Born on October 18, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he comes from a rich musical family background. Marsalis has made a significant impact on jazz and classical music as both a musician and an educator. He has won multiple Grammy Awards and is the first artist to win Grammys for both jazz and classical records in the same year. In 1997, Marsalis became the first jazz musician to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his oratorio "Blood on the Fields."
