Windhand is an American doom metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia in 2008. Known for their heavy, down-tempo melodies and ethereal vocals provided by singer Dorthia Cottrell, the band has carved out a distinct presence in the metal scene. Their self-titled debut album "Windhand" was released in 2012, showcasing their blend of sludgy riffs and haunting atmospheres. They gained further acclaim with their subsequent releases, including "Soma" in 2013 and "Grief's Infernal Flower" in 2015, the latter of which was produced by Jack Endino and received critical praise for its expansive and emotive approach to doom metal.
