William Sterndale Bennett

William Sterndale Bennett

19th-Century British Classical Composer and Pianist

Sir William Sterndale Bennett (1816–1875) was a distinguished English composer, pianist, conductor, and music educator of the Romantic period. He was a contemporary of Mendelssohn and Schumann, both of whom he knew personally, and his style reflects the influence of these composers. Bennett was a child prodigy and began his musical education at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Throughout his career, he composed a number of works including symphonies, piano concertos, chamber music, and choral works.
