Wendy Carlos

Pioneering Electronic Music Composer and Synthesizer Virtuoso

Wendy Carlos is a pioneering American composer and electronic musician best known for her work with synthesizers. Born as Walter Carlos in 1939, she underwent gender reassignment surgery in 1972 and changed her name to Wendy. Carlos came to prominence with the release of her 1968 album "Switched-On Bach," which featured classical pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach performed on the Moog synthesizer. The album was a commercial and critical success, winning three Grammy Awards and popularizing the use of synthesizers in music.
