Walter Kraft

Walter Kraft (1905–1977) was a German organist and composer renowned for his interpretations of organ music, particularly the works of Dietrich Buxtehude. He served as the organist at the Marienkirche in Lübeck, a position he held for many years, which allowed him to become intimately familiar with the North German organ tradition. Kraft made significant contributions to the field of organ music through his performances and recordings. His extensive recording project of the complete organ works of Buxtehude is especially notable and has been well-received for its authenticity and musicianship. Throughout his career, Kraft was respected for his deep understanding of the instrument and its repertoire, making him a significant figure in 20th-century organ music performance.
