Renowned Armenian-American Conductor

Varujan Kojian was a respected conductor known for his dynamic interpretations and strong leadership in the world of classical music. Born on January 4, 1933, in Cairo, Egypt, to Armenian parents, he developed a passion for music early in life. Kojian studied at the Vienna Academy of Music and went on to establish a significant career as a conductor. He served as the music director of the Utah Symphony from 1980 until his untimely death in 1989. During his tenure, he was praised for elevating the performance level of the orchestra and for his compelling renditions of both classical and contemporary works.
