Trio Catch

Trio Catch

Innovative Contemporary Classical Ensemble

Trio Catch is a German new music ensemble based in Hamburg. Three musicians met in the mid-2000s during a scholarship at the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt. Alongside performing a versatile classical repertoire, such as Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak, Glinka, and Mendelssohn, Trio Catch is primarily focused on the interpretation of contemporary music. They won several awards, including Gotthard Schierse Foundation Concert Award (2011), Hermann and Milena Ebel Prize (2012) and Berenberg Kulturpreis (2014). The group has been touring in Germany, France, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Sweden, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Britain, and the Netherlands. They participated in a few prominent festivals and events, including Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, Darmstadt, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, Ultraschall Berlin, and Tage für Neue Musik in Zurich. ECHO (19) nominated Trio Catch for the Rising Stars 2015/16 concert series. Among notable European composers who has been collaborating with Trio Catch are Mark Andre, Georges Aperghis, Beat Furrer, and Helmut Lachenmann. The ensemble commissioned Mirela Ivičević, Martin Schüttler, Gilbert Nouno, Catherine Milliken, Márton Illés, and Santiago Díez Fischer to write new pieces for a trio, as well as for a trio with live-electronics, speaker, and violin. As an ensemble-in-residence at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, Trio Catch organizes workshops for students of composition. Since the summer semester of 2014, the ensemble holds a teaching position. Other educational activities include Louder, a children's workshop at Klangspuren Schwaz festival, and occasional performances at Hamburg schools as part of the JeKi (an instrument for every child) project. Trio Catch is named after Op. 4 Catch by Thomas Adès. Line-up Boglárka Pecze – clarinet Eva Boesch – cello Sun-Young Nam – piano
