Tom Robinson Band

Tom Robinson Band

British Rock Band

The Tom Robinson Band (TRB) is a British rock band established in 1976 by singer, songwriter, and bassist Tom Robinson. The band's music is characterized by its blend of punk rock and new wave, with an overt political edge, often promoting leftist and anti-racist messages within their lyrics. They gained prominence in the late 1970s with their top 20 hit singles "2-4-6-8 Motorway," "Don't Take No for an Answer," and "Up Against the Wall." Their debut album, "Power in the Darkness" (1978), was well-received and is considered a classic by many punk enthusiasts, featuring anthemic songs with a strong social commentary. The band's initial active period was relatively short-lived, as they disbanded in 1981 after releasing two studio albums. Tom Robinson continued to have a successful solo career following the dissolution of TRB and has been involved in broadcasting, notably as a radio presenter on BBC Radio 6 Music.
