Thy Art Is Murder is an Australian deathcore band from Sydney, formed in 2006. The band has carved out a significant presence within the heavy music scene with their aggressive style and energetic live performances. They gained international recognition following the release of their second album, "Hate," in 2012, which charted well in both Australia and the United States, becoming one of the most prominent examples of contemporary deathcore. Following "Hate," they continued to build their reputation with subsequent releases such as "Holy War" (2015) and "Dear Desolation" (2017). In 2016, Thy Art Is Murder was part of a three-way split EP titled "The Depression Sessions," which also featured tracks from fellow extreme metal bands The Acacia Strain and Fit for an Autopsy. Their fifth studio album, "Human Target," was released in 2019 and further solidified their status in the metal community. Throughout their career, Thy Art Is Murder has undergone several lineup changes, with vocalist CJ McMahon being a notable member who briefly left the band in 2015 before returning in 2017. The band is known for its unrelenting brutality combined with thematic content that often critiques organized religion, societal injustices, and moral decay.
