Thomas Bloch

Thomas Bloch

French multi-instrumentalist and composer specializing in rare instruments

Thomas Bloch is a French musician known for his expertise in playing rare instruments, including the ondes Martenot, glass harmonica, and cristal Baschet. Born on April 6, 1962, Bloch has built a career that spans classical, contemporary, opera, ballet, jazz, rock, and experimental music. He has performed in major concert halls worldwide and has participated in over 3000 concerts and 100 recordings. His proficiency with the ondes Martenot—an early electronic musical instrument invented in 1928 by Maurice Martenot—has led to collaborations with numerous orchestras and distinguished conductors. Bloch's work with the ondes Martenot is particularly notable in his performances of Olivier Messiaen's "Turangalîla-Symphonie," a piece that prominently features the instrument. Throughout his career, Thomas Bloch has been dedicated to both preserving the tradition of these unique instruments and exploring their potential through new music.
