The Work

The Work

The Work was an experimental rock band formed in 1980 by British guitarist and composer Tim Hodgkinson after the dissolution of his previous group, Henry Cow. The band was known for its avant-garde musical style that combined elements of punk, free jazz, and experimental music. The Work released several albums throughout the 1980s, including "Slow Crimes" in 1982. The lineup included Hodgkinson on guitar, keyboards, and saxophone, Bill Gilonis on guitar, Mick Hobbs on bass, and Rick Wilson on drums. The Work's music was characterized by its complexity, intense energy, and unconventional structures, reflecting the members' interest in pushing the boundaries of rock music. Despite never achieving mainstream success, The Work gained a cult following and is respected within avant-garde and experimental music circles for their innovative approach to composition and performance.
