The Paul Butterfield Blues Band

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band

Influential 1960s Chicago Blues Band

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band was an influential American blues rock band formed in Chicago in 1963. Fronted by harmonica player and singer Paul Butterfield, the band initially featured guitarist Elvin Bishop, keyboardist Mark Naftalin, bassist Jerome Arnold, and drummer Sam Lay. Later, the virtuosic guitarist Mike Bloomfield joined the group, contributing to their distinctive sound. The band's integration of blues, rock, and other music forms played a significant role in bringing blues to a wider audience, particularly among young white listeners.
