The Night Tripper is an alter ego of Dr. John, a stage name for Malcolm John Rebennack, a prominent figure in the New Orleans music scene. Dr. John was a singer, songwriter, and pianist whose music combined blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie, and rock and roll. Active as a session musician since the late 1950s, he gained fame as a solo artist with his album "Gris-Gris" released in 1968. This album introduced his "Night Tripper" persona and is considered a landmark of psychedelic rock and New Orleans R&B. Dr. John's career spanned over six decades, during which he won six Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by singer John Legend in 2011. His eclectic style and vibrant stage shows made him an iconic figure in American music until his passing in 2019.
