The Marketts

The Marketts

1960s American Surf Rock Instrumental Group

The Marketts were an American instrumental pop group formed in the early 1960s, known for their surf music style with a touch of rock and roll. They achieved their greatest success with the single "Out of Limits" in 1963, which was a top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band was led by Michael Z. Gordon who composed and produced most of their material. The Marketts' sound was characterized by its use of reverb-laden guitars and saxophones, which was typical of the surf rock genre that was popular in Southern California during that era. While they are often remembered for "Out of Limits," they released several albums throughout the 1960s, contributing to the soundtrack of that decade's surf culture. Their work included a variety of themes, including the notable "Batman Theme," which capitalized on the popularity of the Batman TV series at the time.
