The Levellers

The Levellers

British folk-rock band

The Levellers are an English folk rock band formed in Brighton in 1988. They are known for their blend of punk and traditional English music and for their passionate political lyrics. The band consists of Mark Chadwick (vocals and guitar), Jeremy Cunningham (bass guitar), Charlie Heather (drums), Simon Friend (guitar, banjo, vocals), Jonathan Sevink (fiddle), and Matt Savage (keyboards). They gained significant popularity in the 1990s with albums such as "Levelling the Land" (1991), which is often cited as their seminal work, featuring the hit single "One Way." The Levellers have maintained a loyal fan base throughout their career, consistently releasing albums and touring extensively. Their music often addresses issues such as social inequality, environmentalism, and the sense of community, resonating with audiences who appreciate both their musical style and their lyrical content. Over the years, they have also been known for their live performances and have headlined many festivals, including their own Beautiful Days festival in Devon.
