The Foundations

The Foundations

British soul-pop band

The Foundations were a British soul band, active from 1967 to 1970, that achieved notable success in the late 1960s. They were a racially diverse group, which was uncommon at the time, consisting of members from various British, West Indian, and Sri Lankan backgrounds. The band is best known for their hit single "Build Me Up Buttercup," released in 1968, which reached the top of the charts in several countries and remains a popular oldies classic. Their debut single "Baby Now That I've Found You" also achieved chart success, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart in 1967. The Foundations were one of the few British acts to successfully break into the American market during that era. Despite their initial success and contribution to the genre of soul and Motown-influenced music, The Foundations disbanded in 1970 due to internal disagreements and difficulties in maintaining their earlier popularity.
