The Electric Flag

The Electric Flag

1960s Psychedelic Rock and Soul Group

The Electric Flag was an American blues rock soul group, formed in 1967 by guitarist Mike Bloomfield, who had previously gained fame as a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. The band also included drummer Buddy Miles, keyboardist Barry Goldberg, and bassist Harvey Brooks. The Electric Flag made their live debut at the Monterey Pop Festival and were known for their fusion of rock, blues, soul, and jazz elements. Their first full-length album, "A Long Time Comin'," was released in 1968 to critical acclaim, showcasing their innovative sound that blended different musical genres. Despite their initial success and pioneering music style, The Electric Flag struggled with internal issues and substance abuse problems among its members. These challenges led to frequent personnel changes and ultimately contributed to the band's short-lived career. They disbanded in 1969 but left behind a legacy that influenced future generations of rock and soul musicians.
