The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem

The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem

Irish Folk Music Pioneers

Irish folk group based out of New York City active 1956 - 1969, when Makem left for a solo career, the others continuing as The Clancy Brothers. The original quartet reunited in 1984-85 for a documentary, tour, and live album recording. The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem significantly influenced the young Bob Dylan and other emerging artists, including Christy Moore and Paul Brady. The group was famous for its often lively arrangements of old Irish ballads, rebel and drinking songs, sea shanties, and other traditional music.
