The Chordettes

The Chordettes

1950s Female Barbershop Quartet

The Chordettes were an American female vocal group popular during the 1950s and early 1960s. They are best known for their hit songs "Mr. Sandman" and "Lollipop." Formed by Jinny Osborn in 1946, the group originally began as a female barbershop quartet in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. They gained national fame after winning on Arthur Godfrey's talent show in 1949, which led to regular appearances on his radio show. The Chordettes' harmonious blend of voices and charming style made them a household name, and they successfully transitioned from traditional barbershop arrangements to more contemporary pop music.
