The Beta Band was a British musical group that formed in 1996, known for their eclectic and experimental style that blended elements of folk, rock, trip-hop, and electronica. The band consisted of members Steve Mason (vocals, guitar), Richard Greentree (bass), John Maclean (keyboards, sampler), and Robin Jones (drums). They gained critical acclaim with the release of their innovative EPs, which were later compiled into the album "The Three E.P.'s" in 1998. This success led to their self-titled debut album "The Beta Band," released in 1999. Despite initially receiving mixed reviews and the band's own dissatisfaction with the production, the album has since been re-evaluated by some as a cult classic.
