The SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg was a renowned German radio symphony orchestra based in Baden-Baden and Freiburg. The orchestra was founded in 1946, initially as two separate entities: the Sinfonieorchester des Südwestfunks (SWF) in Baden-Baden and the Sinfonieorchester des Süddeutschen Rundfunks (SDR) in Stuttgart. In 1998, these two orchestras merged to form the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg. The ensemble was known for its performances of classical, romantic, and contemporary repertoire, often collaborating with distinguished conductors and soloists. Throughout its history, the orchestra made numerous recordings and was praised for its interpretations of works by composers such as Debussy, Stravinsky, and Tchaikovsky. In 2016, it merged with the SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart to form the new SWR Symphonieorchester.
