Superchunk is an American indie rock band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, formed in 1989. The group is known for its energetic punk-influenced sound and DIY ethic. The founding members are Mac McCaughan (vocals, guitar), Laura Ballance (bass), Chuck Garrison (drums), and Jack McCook (guitar). Garrison and McCook were later replaced by Jim Wilbur and Jon Wurster, respectively. Superchunk made significant contributions to the indie rock movement of the 1990s and co-founded the now-famous independent record label Merge Records, which has released much of their material as well as albums by other notable artists.
