Stellan Sagvik

Stellan Sagvik

Swedish Contemporary Classical Composer and Musician

Stellan Sagvik is Swedish composer, conductor and multi-instrument musician, born July 25, 1952 in Örebro. He studied musicology at Stockholm University for Martin Tegen and Bertil Wikman, among others, and conducted composition studies for Gunnar Bucht, Arne Mellnäs, Lars-Gunnar Bodin and Lars-Erik Rosell at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm 1975–1977. His production consists of 190 opus numbered compositions until 1998 (after which he stopped numbering), among these nine musical-dramatic works, three symphonies, a dozen instrumental concerts, vocal works, choral music, chamber music, piano works and five string quartets. He is now (March, 2022) working on his sixth opera, Meneo, based on the dystopian vision 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley. Sagvik is also active as a musician and vocalist in the world music genre, with a past (and present) as one of four founding members of Musikgruppen RAA, and is now also active in MRAA colleague Kaj Magnusson's children's music/performance trio Folkbus, where Maria Hulthén also plays the violin, and workshops are on offer. Since 1989 he has been running the record company Nosag Records with the release of contemporary music as his main purpose.
