Son Volt

Son Volt

Alt-Country Pioneers

Son Volt is an American alternative country band formed by Jay Farrar in 1994 after the breakup of the influential group Uncle Tupelo, which Farrar co-founded with Jeff Tweedy, who went on to form Wilco. Son Volt's music builds upon the traditional Americana and roots rock foundation, incorporating elements of folk, country, blues, and rock. Their debut album "Trace," released in 1995, was critically acclaimed and is often considered one of the key albums in the alternative country genre. Following "Trace," Son Volt released "Straightaways" in 1997, which continued their exploration of Americana sounds. Over the years, Son Volt has undergone several lineup changes with Farrar being the constant member. The band's longevity is marked by a steady output of albums, including "Union," which was released in 2019. This album reflects a more politically charged approach, addressing contemporary social issues within its lyrics. Son Volt has maintained a dedicated fan base throughout their career and continues to contribute to the evolving landscape of American roots music.
