Sir Adrian Boult

Sir Adrian Boult

British Classical Conductor

Sir Adrian Boult (1889–1983) was a distinguished English conductor, renowned for his association with the music of British composers such as Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Gustav Holst. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London and later in Leipzig under Arthur Nikisch. Boult's career was significantly advanced when he was appointed director of music for the BBC in 1930, a position that allowed him to shape the future of British orchestral music. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, which he led at the inaugural concert in 1930 and continued to conduct until 1950.
