Roscoe Holcomb

Roscoe Holcomb

Appalachian Folk Music Legend

Roscoe Holcomb, born on September 5, 1912, in Daisy, Kentucky, was an American musician known for his unique style of singing and banjo playing. His music is often categorized as Appalachian folk or old-time music. Holcomb's high, piercing vocals and driving banjo style were emblematic of the "high lonesome" sound characteristic of traditional American folk music. He was discovered during the folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s by folklorist and musicologist John Cohen.
