Robert Forster

Robert Forster

Australian Singer-Songwriter and Co-Founder of The Go-Betweens

Robert Forster is an Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and music critic. He is best known as a co-founder of the indie rock band The Go-Betweens, which he formed with Grant McLennan in Brisbane in 1977. The band gained critical acclaim for their jangly guitar pop and literate, emotionally rich songwriting, becoming a significant influence on the indie music scene. After The Go-Betweens disbanded in 1989, Forster embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album "Danger In The Past" in 1990. He continued to produce solo work throughout the 1990s and beyond, with albums like "Calling From A Country Phone" (1993) and "Inferno" (2019), showcasing his evolution as a songwriter and musician. Forster's work is characterized by his distinctive vocal style and insightful lyrics. In addition to his music career, he has also worked as a music critic, writing for publications such as "The Monthly," an Australian national magazine of politics, society, and the arts.
