Rick Wakeman

Rick Wakeman

British progressive rock keyboardist and composer

Rick Wakeman is an English keyboardist, composer, and songwriter, best known for his work with the progressive rock band Yes as well as his prolific solo career. Born on May 18, 1949, in Perivale, London, Wakeman's classical piano training laid the foundation for his virtuosic keyboard technique. He joined Yes in 1971 and became a key member during what many consider the band's golden era, contributing to albums such as "Fragile" and "Close to the Edge." His first solo album, "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" (1973), was a commercial success and is regarded as a classic of the progressive rock genre. Throughout his career, Wakeman has been known for his concept albums and has released over 90 solo albums encompassing a range of styles including rock, pop, and classical. His work often showcases his technical prowess on the keyboard and his flair for dramatic, orchestral arrangements. Rick Wakeman continues to be an influential figure in music, both as a solo artist and with Yes, with whom he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
