Ray Charles And His Orchestra

Ray Charles And His Orchestra

Legendary Soul Pioneer and His Ensemble

Ray Charles was a pioneering American singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer who played an instrumental role in the development of soul music by combining blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles. Born on September 23, 1930, in Albany, Georgia, he became blind at the age of seven. Despite his disability, Charles mastered the piano and broke into the music scene in the 1950s with hits like "I Got a Woman" and "Hallelujah I Love Her So." His unique voice and style earned him the nickname "The Genius."
